The Augmentiverse is a conceptual framework for a persistent digital layer associated with physical places, built around augmented reality and interoperable standards. It asks how spatial experiences can remain discoverable and useful beyond a single device, application or session.
Noureddine Elmqaddem’s 2026 iJET article develops this AR-first, standards-aligned trajectory. The framework is a research proposition; its publication does not mean that a universal spatial layer already exists.

This is an explanatory architecture, not a ratified Augmentiverse protocol. Standards address different layers, and their combination still requires engineering and governance.
An object that stays in place while a user walks around is not necessarily persistent across sessions. Persistence requires saved references, repeatable localisation, access policies and a service that keeps content discoverable. Shared presence also requires compatible coordinate frames and synchronisation.
Physical places change. Spatial content needs a lifecycle: provenance, revision, expiry, removal and responsibility for maintenance. Open formats alone do not settle these questions.
