Mixed reality
Physical and digital elements share a spatial frame.
Overview
In the original reality–virtuality taxonomy, mixed reality covers the region between fully real and fully virtual environments. Contemporary product language often uses MR more narrowly for spatially aware experiences with digital objects integrated into a physical scene.

Spatially aware AR and MR provide the experience layer. An MR application still needs deliberate choices about persistence and interoperability to align with the framework.
How it works
A system reconstructs surfaces or scene geometry, tracks the viewer and places content in shared coordinate frames. Depth data can support occlusion, while hands, controllers or gaze support interaction.
