What exactly is the Augmentiverse?

An academic framework developed by Noureddine Elmqaddem. It proposes an AR-first, standards-aligned path toward persistent, interoperable spatial experiences anchored to physical reality. It is not a product or a certification programme.

How does it differ from the metaverse?

The Augmentiverse makes the physical world its starting point and emphasises open standards and persistence. Metaverse has several competing definitions and can include physical and virtual experiences. The comparison on this site is an editorial synthesis, not a universal definition of either term.

Is it the same as mixed reality?

No. MR describes a class of experiences, with meanings that vary across research and products. The Augmentiverse is a framework for how spatial services should be built and connected. MR does not automatically provide persistent anchors or interoperability.

Why does interoperability matter?

Without compatible representations and interfaces, content can remain isolated in one application. Open standards support portability, but applications must also agree on semantics, permissions and supported features. No single standard solves the entire stack.

What hardware is needed today?

Many AR experiences work on compatible phones; others require spatial headsets. Capabilities must be checked for the exact device, browser and session mode. A camera-equipped pair of glasses is not necessarily an AR display. This website itself requires no headset or WebGL.

Is the term widely used in industry?

This site presents a particular academic framework. Its publication establishes a research contribution; it does not establish broad industry adoption or endorsement. XR and spatial computing are related terms with different scopes.

Does the framework require blockchain, AI or 6G?

No. Portable identity, AI assistance and network infrastructure can be useful components. Their suitability depends on the application. The core commitments are AR-first design, interoperability and persistent spatial presence.

Are French and Arabic editions available?

The current edition is available in Arabic, French and English, with equivalent pages connected by the language selector. Original editions remain accessible in the archive.
